Highly spiritual believers hold that a candle flame can create a passageway that will enable prayers and petitions to be more easily received by such powers from which help is being sought. For these supporters of the faith, the deep meaning of candle color is what enables them to focus and meditate on their goals, objectives, problems and their ultimate solutions.
Fire or the Flame has always been regarded as something holy, magical and mysterious. In most societies, fire first belonged to the gods; the legend of Prometheus and the creation of humanity are but one example. Prometheus is credited with having stolen fire from the gods and given it to mortal mankind.Fire operates in all aspects of life. From volcanic fires to the fires of ordinary body heat to that all consuming fire of passion in the belly, from the solar fires to the fires of intellect, fire’s presence is felt nearly everywhere
The candle’s flame has always been a metaphor for the soul! It possesses a tranquil and almost hypnotic atmosphere
to those who allow its power to take them to a very special place.
A candle acts as a “self-object”. A self-object is an object that is a reflection of our self, a reflection upon which we can act. The candle reflects the spiritual and ethical changes we would like to bring about in ourselves. It burns as a reminder and symbol of our desires.Sometimes we have to hand our dreams over to a force more powerful than we are.
Lighting a candle for a particular purpose or intention symbolizes bringing light to our wishes or desires. You are invited to reflect on whatever is resonating within you at this the moment whether it be love, healing, peace, prosperity or gratitude and light a candle.
The burning of candles for spiritual purposes is a practice that dates back to ancient times. For as long as there have been candles, there were people who believed that a lit candle can connect the physical world with the spiritual realm. To these people, fire and flame are representations of the spark of creation. To light a candle is to illuminate the self.Individuals accepting these beliefs use the burning light of candles to unfold their divine potential. What follows is an examination of these beliefs and the meaning behind illuminated candles combined with prayer and meditation. This examination will of course include a look into the significance and meaning of candle colors.
Candles have been used in religion, for candle healing and for metaphysical purposes for about as long as fire has been around. It is a very powerful symbol for the activation of more fire and light in our lives – on both physical and subtle levels of body mind and spirit.
In Christianity, candles are commonly used in worship both for decoration and ambiance, and as symbols that represent the light of God. Candles have been used by people since the dawn of time for many different reasons. From the practical function of providing light, to the spiritual purpose of rituals and spell work, candles carry with them an innate beauty and mystery. They have the power to draw us into their flame, soothe us and open our eyes to the messages being sent our way.
For centuries candles of different colors have been burned to attract desired emotions, material wealth, or karma. Candles can be one of the most effective tools used for meditation, rituals and other ceremonies. The size of the candles you use is not important. It is the color and its meaning that matters!
Only fresh candles should be used. This avoids issues with candles that have picked up negative energies and vibrations interfering with the ritual or meditation and adversely affecting the outcome. Traditionally, candles should be lit with matches and should be snuffed out, not blown out.
There are many ways to utilize the power of Candle Therapy.
Following are some tips to keep in mind when lighting a candle for healing purposes:
- The candles color must respond with the healing required as its vibration force is activated, released and amplified when it is lit. (Consult this page with some colors) The color emanates its vibration to enlighten the moment and facilitate focus.
- The one you choose should be cleansed and anointed before using by rubbing with a light olive oil in an upwards direction towards the wick. This process is called “dressing the candle.” It strengthens the color so that its energies are more vibrant and activated which will make them far more effective for your purpose.
- Once used for a specific purpose such as in healing, it should not be used for something else as this will set up conflicting vibrations.
- A strong affirmation of intention must be performed when the flame is lit as well as when it is extinguished as if you are firmly setting and locking the healing energy in place.
- Any candle will be effective. For longer, more sustained effects, church candles can be quite effective as they can burn for a long time. Do not leave a candle unattended and make sure you burn them in the right candle holders.
- Do not use candles to interfere with the free will of another as the rebound effect can be very dramatic.
- Putting out the candle should be the last thing after the healing has been done or the ritual has been performed. Visualize the area or person being healed surrounded by white light. Do not blow the candle out rather get yourself a snuffer or use wet fingers to put out the flame.
When working with candles, you can be as simplistic or as complicated as you would like to make it. Always charge your candle before lighting it.
Sit in a quiet place hold the candle in your hands at heart level and visualize the area in your life you want charged (changed). This will personalize your connections with the candle and allow the needed energy to come to you in a more direct way. Begin by using a positive affirmation(our candles come with one), then expand on it based on your specific situation. You get as much out of a candle (or anything) as you put into it. You must create your own reality through the use of your energy, emotions and visualizations. What you wish to create may come immediately or it may take some time. Experience shows that results are only realized at the appropriate time (the Universal time, not your own)! This allows us a great lesson.

Aromatherapy candles are a wonderful way to relax. An aromatherapy candle is more than just a scented candle; it can be used as a powerful relaxation tool. If your candle is made with 100% organic essential oil, then it is also a therapeutic tool that can provide healing benefits as well. Be aware though that a candle that is labeled as an aromatherapy candle, may contain synthetic oils. Always read the product description of any candle you purchase.
Essential oils carry the same healing properties that they did in plant form, so when they are included in an aromatherapy candle; they will give off the same energy. You can use aromatherapy candles during prayer, meditation, or when taking a quiet bath.
If you are sick or ill, you can use aromatherapy candles with other essential oils for maximum healing benefits. It is important to make sure that your aromatherapy candle is crafted out of pure oil and not a chemical counterpart.Double the aromatherapy effect by taking an aromatic healing bath, by adding 20-40 drops of essential oil to your bathwater and burning an aromatherapy candle at the same time. The candle will release the healing oil into the atmosphere while your skin absorbs the oil in the water. When taking an aromatic bath, be sure not to use soap. Soap will coat your skin with a waxy film that will prevent the absorption of the essential oils.If you know how to make your own candles, turn them into true aromatherapy candles by blending your own oils for healing, therapeutic, and spiritual benefits, then adding them to the liquid candle wax, as it is cooling. Don’t add essential oils to boiling hot liquids as they will lose their effectiveness. The fragrance of sandalwood, geranium, orange, tangerine, lemongrass, lemon, bergamot, frankincense, myrrh, and lavender oils is soothing and revitalizing. Mix and match the essential oils in your candle recipes and enjoy the results as you meditate in calming candlelight.Or try this nice, multipurpose blend to get you started: Lavender, Chamomile, Patchouli, and Marjoram.Create aromatherapy jar candles by having the candle wax set right in a glass candle holder. You can reuse these glass holders over and over each time you make new candles. Use unique and decorated glass jars to create aromatherapy candles you can give as gifts to friends and family.
When we use the fires of candles, we are participating in the ritual of fire that has existed throughout the ages. Therefore this healing practice should be seen as an ancient ceremony of creation.

You have now created your sacred space. Bring to it what you want. Use it for what it is and allow it to remain sacred.
Making a sacred space of your own
Whether it be an altar, meditation space, area for healing work or just room for you to breath, can be a fun and exciting choice.
First, find a space to use on a regular basis for “your” space. Doing this, conditions your mind to become familiar and therefore feel relaxed once you are in the space, as it allows you to ascend. In time, just sitting in your space will immediately relax you.
Your space can be a small area in your home where you can sit with your eyes closed for at least a few minutes each day. Choose a clean, quiet place away from all distractions where you can sit on a chair or on the floor. If you use a chair, choose one that allows you to keep your back as straight as possible. If you sit on the floor, you may want to lean your back against something so that you can keep it straight.
Space clearing can be done on a physical level by de-cluttering your surroundings. It can also be done on a metaphysical level with such tools as herbs, salts, crystals, incense, oils and yes, intention.Candles are a safe and effective way to clear and cleanse any space of negative energy. Candles are self-objects, an object that is a reflection of our self. Energy in itself is the vital source, which radiates from everything and everyone around us. When we are ill, emotionally upset, angered or imbalanced, our moods and of course, our energy is altered. Coming in contact with energy that is negative can often be sensed, even felt. The result is often a feeling of uneasiness, confusion or an opposed feeling to our current state of mind. Cleansing your space with a candle is a way to use both fire and scent to clear a room.Cleansing a room with your candle can be done by first stating your intention. Why are you cleansing this space?
Adding herbs or essential oils to clearing can give an added bonus to cleansing. Herbs such as lavender, sandalwood, tea tree, thyme, and rosemary are all good compliments. When using herbs, massage some essential oil on the candle, then rub the herbs on the candle. Light your candle and you can either walk around your space with it, clearing out the corners or place the candle in a holder and allow it to slowly penetrate the room. For a few days just sit quietly in your space for five to ten minutes. This will help establish your energy.
Before you sit, consider using the following “tools” to help increase your intention for the space.
Place in your space only items you absolutely love unconditionally. Do not place it there just because you think it belongs there.
These “tools” should be items that empower you, give you strength, energy and allow you to feel good.
Add your most special crystals into your space. You can create a border with them or design an area or “cluster” just for them.
Remember, this is a living, breathing space, so any items that served you this day, may not serve you tomorrow.
So feel free to bring into your space different items (or tools) that work for you that day.
Now, sprinkle with intention. Intention is a tool that can be used to bring about change. With clear intent, we formulate a greater deliberateness in order to achieve the end result.
