Chakaras and Music
Each celestial body, in fact each and every atom, produces a particular sound on account of its movement, its rhythm or vibration. All these sounds and vibrations form a universal harmony in which each element, while having its own function and character, contributes to the whole. – Pythagoras
Everything, including your mind and body, is in a constant state of vibration. Sound is a vibration that resonates with the soul, which can be felt in every cell of our body. Sound has the power to heal not only on a physical level but also on emotional and spiritual levels.Frequency is the cyclic pattern of scalar waves or standing waves. The speed at which energy contracts and expands is what determines the frequency rate of all things.
Vibration occurs when energy contracts toward the neutral point. When energy expands away from the neutral point, it is known as oscillation. Since the rate of frequency is determined by how fast energy contracts and expands, then frequency is basically the combination of vibration (energy contraction) and oscillation (energy expansion). Frequency plays a major role in the creation of life because it contains the living codes of matter. As energy contracts and expands, it creates energy patterns that blink on and off.
Modern science is proving to you that the whole existence is just a vibration of energy. Just 100 years ago, science believed in matter, but not anymore. Now, modern science has gone full-circle and denies matter. Modern science says there is no such thing as matter. Matter is just a make-believe thing — it’s a relative existence. It is not a reality. Reality is just energy vibrating in different ways. The whole existence is just a vibration. Where there is vibration, there is bound to be a sound. Every vibration is a sound. So every form that we see in the world is a certain kind of sound and the whole existence is just sound, but it is not in our experience because our hearing range is limited. We can not hear it simply because our hearing range is in a small band of frequencies; anything below that is subsonic and anything above is ultrasonic. There are numerous sound that seem to resonate the chakras. Among the most popular are the use of vowels and the use of mantras. This use of vowels seem to be highly effective in balancing the chakras. The Sacred Vowel are considered sacred in many different traditions and Mystery Schools throughout the planet, including ancient Egyptians, Hebrew, Islamic, Tibetan, Japanese and Native American. There are a number of different systems of Sacred Vowels to balance the chakras. There are many other aspects of using sound to resonate the chakras as well. Each chakra in the Vedic tradition is also associated with a particular element. In addition are sounds from the Shabd Yoga, the science of the Audible Sound Current. These sounds are considered to be Divine Emanations of the Creator. Another aspect of sonic chakra resonance has to do with the actual frequency or keynote of each chakra.
There a multitudinous different keynotes and scales with regard to this. I often will simply sound the vowels on a monotone (in the same key) and let the harmonic (and the specific format of the vowel) create the chakra resonance. Of particular note is that the fundamental frequencies used for this system are harmonically related–that is the notes are the natural result of the geometric vibrations of a given string (brought within a single octave). The tuning is different than that of a keyboard (which utilizes a C that vibrates at 261 Hz). The notes that are created from this harmonically related scale are based upon the harmonics created from the fundamental notes of the note C that vibrates at 256 cycles per second (and then having the harmonics transposed down so that the fit within the octave of that C note). 256 Hz. is a harmonic of 1 cycle a second. Many believe this keynote to be in natural resonance with many of the frequencies of the Earth itself. Some belief it is a harmonic of the actual frequency of the Earth. Everything, including your mind and body, is in a constant state of vibration, and as the conduits of energy, the Chakras deeply influence this vibration. Two primary elements of vibration are sound, and color, and each Chakra is associated with specific colors and healing sounds. There are optimum ranges of vibration, and those ranges are called resonance. When we are in resonance, we are in balance.
The human body is constructed with seven basic components, and the root sounds for these seven basic components are what have become musical notes everywhere in the world. People who evolved music may not have experienced this, but if you experiment with music, whichever way you experiment, everything falls within the parameters of these seven notes because the very construction of the body is within the seven dimensions of creation, which is being represented as chakras.
Chakra means “spinning wheel of energy” in the ancient Indian language of Sanscrit. A “chakra” is just a meeting point for the energy system. It is a junction point, a traffic junction, and there are seven major junctions. This does not mean that a chakra by itself has its own quality, it is just that all roads which travel in a direction are doing certain things; they come together at a certain point, so it becomes a powerful place. If a person becomes utterly silent within himself, then the body can be experienced as sound. It is in this state that these seven notes have evolved. There are many Chakras in the body, such as in the hands and feet, but there are seven main Chakras, running up the spine, which are each connected to a nerve plexus, situated within the seven main endocrine glands. Each chakra is associated with different parts of the body, and through Chakra balancing and Chakra healing sound, you can achieve a healthier balance of your body, mind and spirit. The Chakras are the energetic conduits of Life, connecting you directly to the Universal Life Force. Understanding and using your chakras can easily promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing and wellbeing.
The word chakra is a Sanskrit term meaning “wheel”, for chakras are seen as spinning wheels of light by those with the ability to see subtle energy. The chakras are found in many traditions, including Hindu and Tibetan. Many esoteric and occult “Mystery School” describe these energy centers. While the chakras have been incorporated in many spiritual practices, their existence seems to be based, not upon religion, but upon awareness of energy. There is even scientific instrumentation that is beginning to record and validate them.
There are seven main chakras. These chakras are transduction points– places where subtle energy from higher planes begins to become denser. The energy from the chakras then becomes more dense as it comes into the body. It next becomes the acupuncture points and meridians and finally, this energy transduces into the density of the physical body. Imbalances in the physical body can be detected through the chakras. Frequently, healers who work with subtle energy can detect imbalances before they manifest in the physical body by feeling imbalances in the chakras. By balancing the chakras, imbalances in the physical body will often disappear.
The human body is basically made of energy and frequency, which is why it can be measured in a unit of frequency, also known as hertz. Frequency plays an important role for your health because your body depends on frequency to operate, just like how a central processing unit (CPU) needs frequency to work properly. Once you understand the relationship between your body and frequency, you should understand why some scientists like to refer to the human body as a biological quantum computer. As a whole, the human body vibrates at a specific frequency. However, each of its smaller systems also have their own frequency signatures. When your body becomes sick, it is nothing than a disruption in the frequency patterns of your body. This often causes your body’s frequency to drop.We are energetic beings and constantly emit our frequency to the world. Try to be more aware of your emotions, choose consciously what you put in your body, spend more time with your loved ones, practice random acts of kindness, laugh and create more happiness in your life.
Everything, including your mind and body, is in a constant state of vibration. Two primary elements of vibration are sound, and color. There are optimum ranges of vibration, and those ranges are called resonance. When we are in resonance, we are in balance. One of the most effective ways to use Chakra music to heal the mind and body is to realize that every every cell in your body absorbs and emits sound, with a specific resonate sound frequency. The most direct way to influence the resonance of the body with sound healing music is through the Chakras.
Music can also be used for chakra balancing, but it depends upon the type of music. Sound is vibration, hence music is vibration. Music and sound, good or bad, influence us and impact our energy systems. Sound, either as music, musical notes or chanting, can be used for chakra balancing. Repetition supports bringing the body, mind, and soul into a meditative state, where healing occurs, and creates a continuous vibrational environment.
The human body has energy centers with different rates of vibration or sound. These energy centers are called charkas. These energy centers are not in the human body. Rather they are in what is called the subtle or astral body – the aspect of us that experiences astral travel, out of body experiences, and lucid dreams. The subtle or astral body is an energetic form of the physical body.
There are several chakras in the subtle body, but there are 7 main charkas. Their location corresponds to the human spine starting at the base of the spine and running to the crown of the head. Each of the 7 main chakras correspond to the seven notes on a musical scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B). And each chakra also has a corresponding color (seven colors of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). Colors, like sound/vibration, can have an impact on our body’s energies. They can help to clear negative emotions and energy and restore balance. See the chart below for the corresponding color and note for each chakra.
Each chakra vibrates at a different frequency, from the lowest/deepest/slowest frequency at the root to the highest/fastest at the crown – with each chakra having its own sound, just like it has its own color. Sound is vibration. Music and sound, good or bad, influence us and impact our energy systems. Sound, either as music, musical notes or chanting can be used for chakra balancing – repetition supports bringing the bodymind-soul complex into a meditative state, where healing occurs, and creates a continuous vibrational environment. Visualization with the associated chakra color while using sound can deepen & amplify the experience.
Each chakra refers to a certain level of energy vibration and in the various chakras the physical and emotional aspects of a human being come together. For example, when one is healthy or sick, angry or happy, sad or glad, depressed, hateful, mean, hating people and life, or content with life, happy, loving, caring etc., etc. all this reflects whether the chakras are blocked, or vibrating smoothly. It also indicates which chakra or chakras are dominant in a persons life.
There is an entire science behind working with the chakras and cleansing them so the human body, mind, emotions, and soul run smoothly, efficiently and are in harmony not only within oneself, but the person as a whole is at peace with others. All the commands, ethics, and moral codes in all ancient and modern religions are methods that are used (unconsciously) to cleanse and balance the chakras. Certain yoga techniques (such as pranayama and/or chanting mantras) are used to raise the quality of the energy vibration in specific chakras.
Each of the seven main Chakras govern different emotional states, and also, different parts of the body. Each of the seven main Chakras also responds to a different Chakra sound healing frequency.
The physical body interfaces with this energy and vice versa. Frequently, an imbalance in a chakra will manifest later in the physical body. It is possible, such as through a traumatic injury, for both the physical body and the chakras to be simultaneously imbalanced. Healing of the physical occurs much more rapidly when the subtle anatomy–particularly the chakras–are aligned after physical injury. Frequency shifting through resonating the chakras allows us to help create balance and alignment within ourselves.
There are seven main chakras, seven spinning balls of energy that are located centrally in the front and the posterior of the body. The following is a brief description of the chakras:
The Root Chakra influences your vitality, survival instincts, “fight or flight” response, and the emotions of anger, jealousy, desire and greed. The first or “base” chakra located at the bottom of the trunk is involved with the physical process of elimination and the organs which work with that function. It is the chakra associated with the energy of survival. This chakra is also associated with grounding to the physical plane. The Muladhara or Root Chakra governs the life lessons of surviving the material world. This Chakra holds information involving family loyalty, superstitions and beliefs, and your ability to stand up for yourself; your sense of safety, self esteem, and security are based here.
The Root Chakra controls the energy of instinct, pain, and pleasure. Imbalance in the Muladhara may manifest as losing interest in survival in the “real world”, addictions and obsessions, selfishness, restlessness, volatile emotions and a lack of vitality. The “Muladhara” is situated at the root of the spine. It is the Chakra closest to the Earth, and can be used to ground yourself to Mother Earth, and “release” all that negativity, and recharge yourself.
The Root Chakra color is red, other colors are brown, black and gray.Red is the color of our survival chakra, the perineum, our rectum, our asshole, which by our judging it harshly has been turned into our “kill or be killed” chakra. When someone feels their life threatened they often lose control of their bowels and bladder. The Red chakra in it’s natural state is passion, heat, incredible warming sustaining, nurturing energy, like the red molten core of the earth itself. We shame each other by calling each other “assholes”. What the profanity, the swear words, are in a culture tells us what that culture has judged. It is the source of the Etheric layer of the aura, which is associated with awareness of the physical body, and physical survival. It is the layer closest to the body, and densest in texture. It can sometimes be seen as a sort of grayish “heat wave” 2-3 inches around the body. It anchors the aura to the physical body.
The Sacral Chakra encapsulates your sexuality, self esteem, creativity, pleasures and frustrations. The second or sacral chakra, located about three inches below your navel. This is associated with sexual energy, the reproductive organs and with much of the life force. The sexual energy is a divine energy utilized in the spiritual practice of tantra.
It is also known as the Swadhistana or Second Chakra, and in Martial Arts, it is known as the “Hara”. The Swadhistana governs life lessons involving blaming and guilt, sex, power and control; this Chakra is the base for your sense of morality. The Second Chakra is the base of your creativity, manifesting, money and prosperity. Information kept in this Chakra involves your emotions and feelings, and feelings of duality. Your personal magnetism, your patterns of control, and your sociability also emanated from the Swadhistana. An imbalance in the Sacral Chakra may manifest as addiction, intimacy issues, and feeling blue. The Swadhistana color is orange.Orange is the color of your creative sexual energy chakra, your lust for love and life. Your wanting to live, to create, to explore. We have also heavily judged this chakra as wrong when spontaneusly wanting to express. We feel we need to “civilize” it, shackle it, only give it certain socially appropriate ways of expressing. Most spiritual traditions have made this chakra “wrong”, or “base” and needing to be controlled. Western religions like Christianity, Islam, Judaism have just avoided dealing with this chakra altogether and if anything only let it be understood that sex is basically animalistic and wrong in God’s eyes. More sophisticated spiritual schools have said that “desire is the cause of suffering” and we must raise our energy into the higher chakras finally achieving liberation out through the crown chakra. In these spiritual schools there is most often also a judgment against this chakra and an attempt to avoid having to deal with sex, lust, desire by focusing on the higher chakras. This does not work and often spiritual schools, monasteries, retreats, churches have active sex lives going on but in denial with everyone pretending it is not happening. It is located below the belly button, about 2-3 fingers down. The feeling nature of the 2nd Chakra connects it to the Emotional layer of the aura. The shifting emotions flow through the Second chakra and drift like a soft cloud of rainbow colors within the second layer of the aura, shifting and changing with our emotional nature.
The Solar Plexus Chakra, or Manipura, rules lessons involving fear of rejection, your self esteem, sensitivity to criticism, a distorted self image, and fear of your “secrets being found out”. The third or navel chakra is located at the navel and a little above. Its energy is associated with digestion and the digestive organs. It is also associated with power and mastery of self. The wisdom of the Solar Plexus involves your sense of personal power and knowing, your personality and your sense of belonging. An imbalance in the Manipura might manifest as poor decisions, poor concentration, trouble taking action and getting things done, and an inability to judge a situation accurately. Imbalances in this Chakra can create feelings that you are more, or less, than other people. Emotional memories are stored within the Manipura, and it is where your ‘gut feelings’ originate, it is the center of your emotional life, and many are naturally connected to the environment through the Solar Plexus chakra. Third Chakra is right above your belly button, at the center of your solar plexus. It’s color is yellow.Yellow is the color of our Solar (sun = yellow) Plexus. Our feeling, sensing, intuitive center. This chakra has in the fallen creation made the decision of “flight or fight”. This is where we feel our fear, our “butterflies” in our stomach is when this chakra is vibrating and sensing, trying to send us messages. We have judged this chakra heavily also. “You yellow bellied…so and so…”. We have shamed each other into denying our fears. “Oh, no I’m not afraid. I’m willing to do the risky stupid thing so I don’t look weak in front of the group”. It has become easy to control others on earth by challenging their courage and calling them scared- “pussies”- wimps. 5000 wars have been fought on earth in recorded history by getting men to deny their fear and “Charge!” ahead to prove their courage and manhood mostly to their death. This has caused massive damage to the intuitive 3rd – yellow – solar chakra and so most men have lost touch with their intuition and are therefore easily controllable and without real free wills. It is connected to the Mental layer of the aura. The mental layer of the aura vibrates with, and is formed by, our thoughts, and is a fine, bright yellow energy. It pulsates and thickens when we concentrate and focus our minds.
The Heart Chakra is the center for unconditional love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness and tolerance. The fourth or heart chakra is located in the center of the chest between the nipples. On the physical, it works with the lungs and the heart. On the emotional, it works with the energy of compassion and love. The Heart is the seat of the Soul. The Anahata nurtures life lessons of love and compassion, self acceptance and confidence, hope and inspiration, and generosity. On the flip side, hate, fear, envy, anger and despair reflect an imbalance of the Heart Chakra. The purpose of the Anahata includes maintaining the connections and ties to those we love. Heart Chakra imbalance may be felt as difficult relationships, living through others, depending on others for your happiness, and a lack of self discipline. It is directly connected to the Astral layer of the aura. It is the bridge, or melting pot, between the lower/denser energies of our body Chakras, and the higher/lighter energies of the higher Chakras. The Heart Chakra color is green, and the secondary color is pink. Green is the color of Heart and also, not surprisingingly, the color of Love expressing on planet earth in her mostly green lifeforms. When earth receives the Love of the Sun what colour does she exuberantly overflow with? Green! all over the place! Heart is the solution, the pivot point, the gateway between the “above” and “below” chakras. Heart has been heavily denied, shamed, made fun of as impractical, naive, too sweet, too childlike, to function in our survival of the fittest, dog-eat-dog world. Jesus of course was Heart and symbolically Heart is hung on the cross between heaven and earth and killed, sacrificed. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in all the western countries because those are the countries where we have most heavily denied our hearts in favor of technology-mechanism-intellect. Without opening this chakra there is no possibility of having real enjoyable Life on earth.
It is seated deep within your heart. Pretty Heart Chakra Gemstones like rose quartz, green quartz, emeralds, green, pink and watermelon tourmaline, malachite, jade, aventurine, ruby zoisite, moss agate, peridot, and pink saphire are used for harmonizing the Heart.
The Throat Chakra is the chakra of communication, self expression and judgment. The fifth or throat chakra is located at the throat, at the base of the neck. It is a chakra that is associated with the process of communication; speech and hearing. The ears are associated with this chakra, as is, of course, the vocal apparatus. Also known as the Vishuddha, this Chakra rules self expression and speaking one’s truth, the written word, poetry, faith, and will power. On the flip side, the need to criticize, a lack of authority, and indecisiveness reflect an imbalance of the Throat Chakra. Information stored in the Vishuddha includes truth and self knowledge, your attitudes, and taste. Throat Chakra imbalance may be experienced as poor self expression, habitual lying, doubt, fear, and uncertainty. The Throat Chakra color is turquoise or aqua, with the secondary color as various shades of light blue. Blue is the color of our throat chakra and the one currently controlling the earth. These are the police forces “The (thin) Blue Line” protecting us from those horrible “lower” chakras. Blue is the voice telling others what to do, how to live, and shaming us with words if we don’t do what blue “knows best”. This has become the domination color on earth. Controlling people with words. Blue likes to mix itself with White which they think represents God, but remember White is also the color of blinding flashing rage, Lucifer. Lucifer’s name means the brightest whitest light in the Universe. There needs to be the feeling of Love in the white light or else it becomes domination of others. The Fifth Chakra is connected to the Fifth layer of the aura, the Etheric Template. This layer of the aura is a “template” for your physical body in the astral plane… such as, when a person experiences “astral projection” as if they are walking around in an invisible (to others) form of their physical body.
The Brow chakra is the seat of dreams, inner vision, spiritual direction and wisdom. The sixth or brow chakra is located in the center of the forehead above the eyes. Often called “The Third Eye”, it is associated with imagination and psychic abilities. Mental activity and brain function are also associated with this chakra.
The Third Eye Chakra is situated in the center of the brain (not the center of the forehead). Life lessons of the Brow Chakra include ‘reality checks’, detachment, understanding, open mindedness, trusting your intuition and psychic abilities, self realization, and releasing repressed negative thinking. The wisdom within the Third Eye include seeing clearly, both symbolically and literally, intuition, wisdom and intellect.
The Ajna Chakra color is indigo and shades of dark blue. Indigo is the color of the spiritual seer. The visionary, the third eye in the center of our foreheads. Indigo has been caught in between the Purple and Blue chakras, between Spirit and Dominator. Indigo has had a hard time because neither Blue nor Purple has wanted to hear from each other or cooperate and Indigo has been the go-between that has often been rejected by both sides. Indigo can see where we are heading and tries to warn those in control (blue and purple) but blue and purple have mostly been interested in keeping their control no matter what they need to to, who or how many have to be killed, even if the Earth itself needs to be blown up and sacrificed. Indigo has had a very hard time on earth trying to share what it sees. The Sixth Chakra is connected to the Sixth layer of the aura, the Celestial layer. This layer of the aura is associated with the process of Enlightenment and the experience of spiritual ecstasy. It is your source of connection to unconditional love, the Source, of God.
The Crown Chakra serves to balance the inner and outer self, and is the connection to the Higher Self. The seventh or crown chakra, is located at the top of the head. It is associated with the induction of spiritual energy into the body. It is said to control every aspect of the body and mind and is associated with full enlightenment and union with God. This chakra is normally not fully open in most humans, though pictures of saints and other spiritual beings with “halos” are depictions of activated crown chakras.
The Sahasrara is located at the crown of the head, and is the channel through which we receive Divine guidance, wisdom and purpose. Life wisdom flowing through the Crown are integration of the whole Self, knowledge of the Divine, intuitive knowing, living in the Now, inspiration, devotion, ethics, values, trust, selflessness, and humanitarianism. The wisdom within in this chakra includes your connecting cord to the Divine, your life’s purpose, and connection to your past lives. An imbalance in the Crown might manifest as loss of meaning or identity, and a lack of purpose. The Sahasrara color is rich purple, the secondary color is crystal clear or pure white. Purple/Violet is the color of this “crown” chakra. Kings, royalty have used this color to legitimize their “crowns”, their ruling others, their hearing directly from God above and dispersing the white light down into the body. But the side of purple that hasn’t let itself be seen very much is the control, the feeling “above it all”, ruling with an iron hand the “lower” castes of people. Purple sometimes has a perspective of “the masses are asses” and need to be controlled. Purple hasn’t wanted to incarnate fully, has wanted to remain above it all. Sexually this has often manifested in wanting to watch the “lower” ones have sex, instead of having it themselves. The Crown Chakra is connected to the Ketheric Template layer of the aura. The Ketheric template is the “soul plan”, it reflects all our past lives, and our goals for this life. It is composed of fine silver and golden threads of light, directly connected to God.
Music is the universal language of mankind. Music means various types of sounds: when they’re in tune it becomes music; out of tune it becomes noise. The same is true with you. If all the different ingredients of who you are become in tune, you are like music; out of tune you become noise. If you feed any sound into an oscilloscope, a sound-measuring instrument, it gives out a certain form. That means every sound has a form attached to it.
Similarly, every form has a sound attached to it. Or in other words, today modern science is proving to you that the whole existence is just a vibration of energy.
Where there is a vibration, there is bound to be a sound. So in yoga, we say the whole existence is just sound. We call this “Nadha Brahma.” Nadha Brahma means the whole creation and the creator are just sound. Now this is not a fancy conclusion that somebody has drawn, a scientist deduced it. Albert Einstein never experienced this; he only mathematically deduced that everything is just energy vibrating. But when we approach it experimentally, when we saw it experimentally, naturally it was all sound. Every vibration is a sound. So every form that you see in the world is a certain kind of sound.
Sound vibrations influence us on a physical/etheric, emotional/astral, mental/causal, and spiritual level. Our body and chakra centers resonate at certain vibrations or sound frequencies. If any part of our body or chakra is out of balance, it can gradually be brought back into balance by listening to a sound frequency for the corresponding body part or chakra. Through the use of sound therapy eventually any disturbances in the body or chakras will soon resonate to the vibration thus producing the right frequency in the body’s organ or chakra center.
This process can open the sub conscious and unconscious mind and release unpleasant thoughts, emotions or memories. It is all part of the healing process.
Now the human body is constructed with seven basic components, and the root sounds for these seven basic components are what have become musical notes everywhere in the world. People who evolved music may not have experienced this, but if you experiment with music, whichever way you experiment, everything falls within the parameters of these seven notes because the very construction of the body is within the seven dimensions of creation, which is being represented as chakras.
Throughout human history, music has had the power to transform, mentally, spiritually and physically. Now we are rediscovering what the ancients have known for centuries, music has the power to heal.Since ancient times, music has been recognized for its therapeutic value. Greek physicians used flutes, lyres, and zithers to heal their patients. They used vibration to aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep. Aristotle (373–323 BCE), in his famous book De Anima, wrote that flute music could arouse strong emotions and purify the soul. Ancient Egyptians describe musical incantations for healing the sick.We identify sound frequencies by using a unit of measurement called “Hertz”. Hertz measures sound as 1 vibration cycle per second. Since ancient times, at least 7 of these sound healing frequencies, associated with the energy centers of the body, the Chakras, were used to heal.
In India, music was not just entertainment, it was a spiritual process. The classical music, the way sound is used – the ragas (melodies), the talas (rhythms) – everything is such that if you get deeply involved in it, it will bring meditativeness. You will see that a person who is very deeply involved in classical music will be saint-like. Have you have seen this? If you have seen a person who is very deeply involved in classical music, he becomes like a saint because it makes him meditative. It was not that somebody invented it just for entertainment. Entertainment was not the attitude of life. Everything was a spiritual process to reach a higher level of consciousness.
There are numerous sounds that seem to resonate the chakras. I have utilized a system of sounding the sacred vowels that came to me many years ago and that I have shared effectively with thousands of people.
An alternative method of resonating the chakras is to use the Bija Mantras, the Sanskrit letters from the Vedic traditions, which by themselves are said to balance and align the chakras. There are silent Bijas and spoken Bijas. These are the spoken Bijas that are chanted aloud in order to resonate the chakras. As with all systems of using sound, there are variations. Such is the case with the Bija Mantras. I utilize a specific system of Bija Mantras that Dr. Deepak Chopra helped bring to public awareness. There are many other aspects of using sound to resonate the chakras as well. Each chakra in the Vedic tradition is also associated with a particular element. In addition are sounds from the Shabd Yoga, the science of the Audible Sound Current. These sounds are considered to be Divine Emanations of the Creator.
Simply by listening daily to Chakra healing music, you could…
Vowels carry the “information energy” of speech, whereas consonants act to break up the energy flow. In ancient Sanskrit, Hebrew, Chinese, etc, the vowel sounds are considered to be sacred. In other words, the vowel sounds carry the intention and focus. It is worth noting that sound (creating certain vibrations using your voice) stimulates the chakras. While in a state of deep meditation ancient seers in India came up with different mantras for stimulating the different chakras. The chakras affect the health and emotions in the region of the body that they govern. By using the correlating mantra you can stimulate the chakra to help heal the body, and release the emotions. The sound awareness and listening skills you have been developing with the sounding of the AUM, Seven-Chakra Mantra, and Heart Sutra along with One Breath, One Voice and the other more spontaneous singing exercises will now give you confidence to start attuning yourself to your emotions and then to locate where they are held in your body, and ultimately, to give them new vibration and sonic clothes. Each chakra has a specific vibration, primordial sound and key musical note associated with it. Listening to these healing sound vibrations will assist in releasing any energy that is causing a block or imbalance in the chakras. We can open up a specific chakra by focusing our attention (with pure intention) on the chakra location and repeating the associated sound or mantra aloud. It is also beneficial to visualize the color associated with each chakra as you tune them with sound.
Start by sitting comfortably in a chair or on a cushion on the floor. Try to keep your spine as straight as possible, which allows the energy to flow in your body more freely – it may help to imagine your head is suspended from above by a fine cord, letting your body hang below it naturally.
Make these sounds in a gentle voice – don’t strain. Focus your energy and intent for balancing and energising each chakra before toning. To find the correct pitch for a particular chakra, scan up and down feeling in your body for a resonance (apart from the throat where it will always resonate). The pitch will change according to the person, mood, diet, activities, emotional states, etc on a daily basis. There is no set frequency.
Breathe in deeply, expanding your lower stomach as you inhale. I imagine the energy of each breath coming into my body through whichever chakra I am working on,this can help to focus your awareness. You may also wish to add a colour visualisation on each chakra.
In traditional Hatha Yoga & Ayurveda, the seven Bija mantras associated with the chakras are:
LAM (Lum) – for the root chakra
VAM (Vum) – for the sacral (naval) chakra
RAM (Rum) – for the solar plexus chakra
YAM (Yum) – for the heart chakra
HAM (Hum) – for the throat chakra
AUM (or OM) – for the third eye chakra
AH (Ahh..) – for the crown chakra
Focus your attention on the chakra as you make its sound, either as a note, vowel or mantra sound. Vowel or mantra seed can be repeated or chanted 3 or more times. Sounds may be soft and gentle – they do not have to be loud. You do not have to be able to carry a tune or sing to sound the chakra notes – you can sound them silently or aloud. Each chakra sound, for 1 or 2, or up to 5 minutes each, starting at the root, can be chanted as part of a sound meditation chakra balancing exercise. You would focus on the chakra as you sound the associated note, and you can add visualiziation of the associated color to enhance the meditation.Once you are familiar with the energy movements that accompany each musical note, you will begin to discover how you can embody your naked voice and express yourself in new and unexpected ways, unifying body, heart, and mind to collaborate and communicate as one.
Another aspect of sonic chakra resonance has to do with the actual frequency or keynote of each chakra. There a multitudinous different keynotes and scales with regard to this. Your relationship with your voice—spoken and sung and all the spaces in between—can tell you everything you need to know about the sound of who you are. The startling truth is that you are—the resonance of your being is—much deeper and more beautiful than your personality and rational mind could ever fathom. Singing with your naked voice ignites a power of longing, a longing for somewhere you have never been, for something that you cannot name.
Of particular note is that the fundamental frequencies used for this system are harmonically related–that is the notes are the natural result of the geometric vibrations of a given string (brought within a single octave). The tuning is different than that of a keyboard (which utilizes a C that vibrates at 261 Hz). The notes that are createdcreated from this harmonically related scale are based upon the harmonics created from the fundamental notes of the note C that vibrates at 256 cycles per second (and then having the harmonics transposed down so that the fit within the octave of that C note). 256 Hz. is a harmonic of 1 cycle a second. Many believe this keynote to be in natural resonance with many of the frequencies of the Earth itself. Some belief it is a harmonic of the actual frequency of the Earth.
A newer method for stimulating the chakras, but not as well-known, is the use of chakra frequencies i.e. listening to frequencies that correspond to the frequency of each chakra.
It just so happens that each of the 7 main chakras closely (not exactly) correspond with the notes on the musical scale:
Musical Scale – C, do (264 Hz) | root chakra (256 hz and 194.18 hz)
Musical Scale – D, re (297 Hz) | sacral (naval) chakra (288 hz and 210.42 hz)
Musical Scale – E, mi (330 Hz) | solar plexus chakra (320 hz and 126.22 hz)
Musical Scale – F, fa (352 Hz) | heart chakra (341 hz and 136.10 hz)
Musical Scale – G, so (396 Hz) | throat chakra (384 hz and 141.27 hz)
Musical Scale – A, la (440 Hz) | third eye chakra (448 hz and 221.23 hz)
Musical Scale – B, ti (495 Hz) | crown chakra (480 hz and 172.06 hz)
Each chakra sound carries a vibrational power that awakens a specific emotional state, a realm of self-awareness and wisdom within us—from the root of the body into the pelvis, the solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, back of the head, and crown of the head—in the same way that the chakras or energy centers can. This sound work is a vibrational medicine. The energy field of your body is the vessel for the sonic architecture of your soul to blossom and flourish. Listening more deeply, start to notice how these seven simple chakra sounds create musical intervals that open your heart and empower your experience of love in all its forms: instinctual, intuitive, and insightful.

When working with the chakras, we often focus on visualisation, but one of the most effective ways of connecting with, healing and balancing the chakras is through sound.
Each chakra has a corresponding mantra or sound, which can be repeated in a deep, monotone manner. This means that we can actually feel the sound’s vibration. Each chakra also has it’s own associated concert key/note. Additionally, I have found using sounds in the form of instruments and music that correspond with the element of the chakra helpful in balancing my chakras.
Sound is a powerful tool, and it’s a great idea to experiment with a variety of ways in which we can use sound in chakra balancing and healing. If two different tones are played into each ear, the brain attempts to find a balance- for example, if the frequency of sound in your left ear is 391Hz, and the frequency you’re hearing in your right ear is 411Hz, your brain will process a binaural beat of about 10Hz. These beats are not actually heard, since they are well below the natural range of hearing, but you can often “hear” a sort of “humming” inside your head as the binaural beat.
It’s been discovered that these binaural beats can be used to elicit responses in the brain; the brain becomes “entrained”, which means it starts to resonate at the same frequency as the binaural beat. When this happens, it can change the brain wave patterns in your brain temporarily. This has been shown to have a profound effect; it’s been shown that binaural beats are highly effective at inducing meditative and hypnotic states. This is a great advantage for anyone who wants to meditate, but does not have the time or money for a teacher to learn how. This type of meditation is also more effective than ordinary meditation, because of the binaural beats. It can reduce your stress, calm your thoughts, and increase such things as intuition and creativity.
Science has discovered that our brains operate in five levels of frequency- gamma, beta, alpha, theta and delta. Each level of frequency is measured in cycles per second, or hertz- hz.
Gamma has the highest frequency 40 Hz and above. Advanced meditation and yoga practices associate the Gamma brainwave frequency with a state of pure compassion. Researchers have also discovered that the Gamma brainwave range is associated with a heightened sense of perception, mood and information processing.
Beta has the next highest frequency, between 13 and 40 Hz. This is associated with our normal, everyday waking state. Beta helps in logical thinking, analysis, and active attention, and can be useful for study and work.
Alpha operates between 8 and 13 Hz. This occurs during daydreaming, fantasizing and creative visualization. This is often associated with a deeply relaxed state, and with a light trance or meditation.
Theta operates between 4 and 8 Hz. Theta is associated with intuition, and allows us to access our subconscious. It is activated during dream sleep and deep meditational states. Theta is also associated with creative thinking, and allows us to tap into our inner genius.
Delta has the lowest frequency between 0.5 and 4 Hz. Delta is produced during deep sleep.
Binaural beats can:
Safely and easily take you to a state of deep meditation.
Improve your intuition, creativity, your ability to focus, concentrate and think more clearly.
Create quantum leaps in your personal self awareness.
Significantly lower your stress levels and calm your thoughts.
Create improvements in your mental and emotional health, even areas that have stubbornly resisted change.
The binaural beat Chakra healing sound programs sold on this website go to a low frequency of 7.83. This is known as the Shummann or Earth Resonance, and it is the frequency of the Earth’s magnetic field. It is also on the cusp between the Alpha and Theta brain wave states. This to be a very beneficial brain wave entertainment frequency, leaving the listener feeling calm, centered and grounded. Most of our binaural beat brainwave entrainment programs will ramp back up to a frequency of approximately 12 Hz, leaving the listener on the cusp between Alpha and Beta. Some binaural beat brainwave entrainment programs differ, with binaural beats going to deeper, Delta brainwave states, and this will be noted in the descriptions.
The idea of chakra balancing and healing through sound really comes back to what is called ‘harmonic resonance’. This is a phenomenon in which object A can be made to vibrate by the powerful vibration of object B, if both objects share a harmonic relationship. They begin to resonate with each other. Put simply: chakras are energy centers – energy has vibration, and sound has vibration – so by using corresponding, harmonic sound, we can promote balance within our chakras.
Each chakra has a corresponding mantra or vowel sound that can be repeated – it is best to do this deeply and slowly so that you can actually physically feel the vibration of the sound throughout your body. Listening to or singing in the concert key of the chakra is an easy and quick way to balance. And, finally, I have found that certain types of music and instruments really help me connect with and balance my chakras.

These seven chakra sounds are essentially “vocal homeopathy” for the brain, body, and soul. They catalyze an alchemical process that, with practice, rewires your brain and transforms your reactive mind by the simple act of expressing your emotional energy supported by these sung chakra sounds. Each one has a unique fragrance, expression, and intensity.
These all work best in conjunction with visualization and when done regularly. Play around and experiment to see what works best for you.
