Also known as the 7th or Crown chakra, the Sahasrara is sanskrit for “the lotus flower of 1000 petals”. It’s located at the top of our head, and it is our connection to The Divine, Our Father, just as the root chakra is our connection to Our Mother Earth. It is thought that the Archangel Metatron has govern over our Crown Chakra, bridging the gap between the Divine and Humanity.
It is this gateway that connects us both to the physical and non-physical realm of our existence, and it is here that we find Our Divinity and become Enlightened. From this place, we realize that we are truly connected to All-There Is, and in this knowing comes a Great Compassion for all life, Eternal Bliss and Infinite Wisdom.
We become aware that our life is but an extension of our own consciousness; that we are the dreamer, dreaming the dream. We understand that all manifestations (good and bad) are a result of our thought patterns that become subconscious beliefs – and in knowing this, we can begin to change the dream.
The Crown Chakra is intimately tied with the pineal gland which releases large amounts of growth hormone among other chemicals when we are babies. As we grow up the pineal gland shrinks to a tiny shriveled up pea. This is due to the closure of the Crown Chakra after the chitta and ego structures do their work. Reactivating the pineal gland can only come along with the activation of the Crown Chakra which will indeed rejuvenate the entire body. All bodily systems would run smoother and we would live long and free of sickness. The Crown Chakra is intimately tied with the Base Chakra and will not open and become activated without the kundalini and sexual energy rising from the Base and Sex Chakras. These forces will activate the crown along with the pineal and lead to the actual incarnation of your Higher Self. All ego structures will be dissolved during this process and the spirit may finally dwell within the body.
The Crown Chakra is also the proper exit point for the soul at death. If the Crown is open enough the subtle bodies will leave through the crown and begin to ascend into higher dimensions.
Sahasrara (Sanskrit: सहस्रार, IAST: Sahasrāra, English: “thousand-petaled”) or crown chakra is the seventh primary chakra, according to Hindu tradition.
The Sahasrara is described as having 1,000 multi-colored petals, which are arranged in 20 layers, each layer with approximately 50 petals. The pericarp is golden and within it a circular moon region is inscribed with a luminous triangle, which can be either upward- or downward-pointing.
The Sahasrara, or white lotus, is located either at or slightly above the top of the head.
Center of the top of the head
Pineal – Connects to 8th Chakra – 6 inches above the head – Right Eye.
Location – Top of head, surrounds the entire scalp
Color – Violet (From the highest spiritual level can be seen as a yellow-green color.) The Crown chakra is associated with the color violet (or white, who is made up of all colors in the spectrum). Lighting this color of candles while focusing your attention on the top of your head will start to bring balance to it! Wearing the color violet and surrounding yourself with flowers of this color will greatly help it begin to vibrate in harmony.
Attributes – Inspiration, wisdom, cosmic consciousness, spirituality, higher selves, umbilical cord to God
Element – Thought
Gems/Minerals – Diamond, quartz crystal
Amethyst, celestite, obsidian, selenite, blue sapphire, peacock ore, clear quartz, apophyllite quartz, spirit quartz, moldavite, danburite, goshenite, petalite, fuchsite, stilbite, sugilite, cacoxenite, cavansite, phenacite.
Musical-Vibrational Note – B
Sound Therapy – The seed sound of the Crown Chakra is “OM” – believed to be the creating sound of the Universe. It resonates in “B” note. Chanting OM in “B” will allow it to vibrate properly.
Aromatic Chakra Oils – Frankincense, Myrrh, Violet
Cedarwood, Elemi, Frankincense, Galbanum, Gurjum, Helicrysum, Jasmine, Lavendar, Myrrh, Neroli, Rose, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Spikenard, Vetiver
Organs and functions connected to the Crown Chakra– Head, brain, ears, eyes, pineal gland, skeletal and muscular systems as well as the skin.
Foundation – Blissfulness and refined thoughts
When unbalanced you may experience – Depression, lack of grounding, lack of inspiration due to disconnection from spiritual source
Blocked or overactive Crown Chakra can lead to various physical ailments such as depression, headaches, neurological issues etc.
Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, paralysis, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, senility, dementia etc are also linked to imbalance in the seventh Chakra.
Vitalizes the cerebrum (or upper brain) and anchors the etheric stream into the physical body. It is the direct connection to our Higher Self and brings reverence, knowledge of Infinity, insights from the Spiritual Self – or Etheric Double and brings dedication to God from the Spiritual Will.
This seventh chakra is a blending of blue, the power and will of the God, and pink, the love and compassion of the God. This blending creates balance and harmony for our spirit and allows wisdom to flow into the soul. The crown chakra accumulates all the energies and emotions from the lower chakra points and transmutes them by “fire”. The sacred Violet Flame “burns” off residual fears, doubts, and apprehensions opening our energetic body to receive the highest vibrational light.
This chakra is the most penetrable for light. This represents deep all-embracing wisdom. When clean, one knows and understands everything. Nothing is obscure concerning life. When two people mix the energies, the crown chakras and the throat chakras are often involved. When they talk together the lights mixes. But if the crown power point is clean then it is relatively unimportant if they have verbal dialogue. The yellow light will reach each other telepathically. The silent transference of wisdom from the one to the other will take place with no words.
Wisdom can also be transferred from one to another through the eyes as well. When a person has a very clean crown chakra the yellow light turns to a soft golden. This color wraps the person in an aura that has a most beautiful influence on others. It is important to cleanse this due to the amount of light that penetrates it.
When two people have blocked chakras there is an unpleasant muddy color. Misconceptions appear like they only live once, thoughts on time and space and how it does not relate and other connected concepts of thinking. Grotesque symbols of limitation appear thus hindering further growth.
The Crown Chakra is associated with the parts of the consciousness concerned with unity or separation, and just as the Root Chakra showed our connection with Mother Earth, this chakra shows our connection with Our Father, Which Art in Heaven. At first, it is associated with our connection with our biological father. This becomes the model for our relationship with authority, and this becomes the model for our relationship with God. When there is a sense of separation from our biological father, the person closes this chakra, and the effect on the consciousness is a sense of isolation and aloneness, being in a shell, and difficult to make contact with those outside the shell.
When all seven Chakras are open optimally (i.e. not too much, not too little) they spin with energy and transmit it throughout the body. This helps the individual function properly physically and psychologically.
On the other hand, even if one Chakra is blocked or open too much, then the individual may experience frustration, ill health and destructive thoughts. Learning, concentration and memory problems, physical illnesses, chronic disorders, aches and pains as well as depression can be attributed to imbalanced Chakras.
The person feels as if they are hiding from God, or hiding from themselves, not seeing what is true for them in the deepest part of their consciousness, the part we call the soul.
This chakra is also associated with a sense of direction.
The parts of the body controlled by this chakra are the pineal gland, the brain, and the entire nervous system as a system. Immortality, Angels, Grace, Communing with the Divine Forces, Self-Realization.
When is balance – you will have a great intuitive knowledge, and will be very wise. You will be aware of your spiritual self and be selflessly devoted to the well-being of others because you see them as a part of you, rather than as separate.
Over-active – If your crown chakra is over-active you probably will not be able to control your encounters with other realms of existence. You may be considered “far out” there and will have trouble grounding yourself, making it hard for people to take you seriously. Because of an over-activity in this chakra, you may possess a god-complex and consider yourself better than others in the world around you.
Under-active – If under-activity or a blockage is happening in your crown chakra you will probably feel like you lack a purpose in life. You may think that it is all meaningless, and in this thinking, will develop a mental “disease”. You may feel unloved, or angry at God, and blame life circumstance on something that is outside of you. Co-ordination difficulties, clumsiness, or poor balance may result from an underactive crown chakra. New ideas or newer, positive out-looks on life will be hard for you grasp, if you except them at all. You will probably lack spiritual exploration and have no desire to discover your inner self. You may also be excessively afraid of dying.
Physical Symptoms of an Imbalance – Muscular disease, chronic exhaustion that has no medical explaination, sensitivity to light, certain sounds or environment (commonly found in autism)
Balancing – There are many ways one can begin to balance their Chakras, below you will find several useful methods, and a video that includes sound, colour and positive affirmations that pertain to the Sahasrara.
There are a few expert recommended techniques which can help us balance the seventh Chakra optimally. The key here is to open the Chakra just right: not too much, not too little.
Meditate upon the Crown Chakra. Focus your attention on the top of the head and clearly set your intention of balancing the Chakra. Visualize the violet color when doing this. Thank the Universe and feel the connection to the Higher Being, since Gratitude and contentment are the simplest ways of strengthening this Chakra.
Crystals and gems like Amber, diamonds and moldavite may be used when activating the seventh chakra.
Aromatherapy with floral essences such as Lotus, Angelica and white tulip when applied to the pulse points can aid the meditation process.
Yoga postures like Shavasana (corpse position) or Lotus position (Padmasana) are recommended for aiding the Crown Chakra. An advanced pose, the headstand or Shirshasan, also helps balance the Crown Chakra by increasing blood flow to the top of the head.
Detoxifying and fasting for a day or two is also recommended to balance the Seventh Chakra. Light meals, broth, stews and soups, violet colored fruits and vegetables along with plenty of water must be used to clear the Crown Chakra and enable it to receive the Divine Energy.
The Crown Chakra is our connection with Divinity; it is the portal through which the life energy enters our body. Without this energy, human beings cannot function properly and tend to feel disconnected with self and others. By balancing and strengthening the Seventh Chakra, we can connect with the Higher Power to receive its love which can then be shared with those around us.
Affirmation while focusing on the Crown: I trust my inner knowing to guide me through life.
All people in my life are here to teach me something about myself, so that I can grow.
I trust that everything happens for a reason and that what I do makes a difference.
I am balanced between Heaven and Earth and all areas of my life are in balance too.
The Sahasrara’s element is inner-light, or thought, and is considered the most sutble element from which the Cosmos were created. It is Divine, it shines through creation, connecting all and is everywhere in Nature. Sitting or meditating outside and allowing yourself to feel this great energy that is in everything, will help awaken the deepest part of your being.
Through the Crown Chakra you can literally reach the heavens or other energy realms. You can rise through the center of your head and “astral travel” with your Guides. You can project healing, and pure, unconditional love energies anywhere in the Universe. This is where the “power of prayer” becomes reinforced. This is the center where you bring in the Spiritual Forces through Shakti Energy to purify the body and join the kundalini energies in order to reach a “nirvana” or total purification and recalibration of the cellular structure and DNA system of the body. You can “erase karma” through Divine Grace brought through the Crown Chakra into the Heart Center.
